An Artist Statement is useful only to another artist who must write one.

Painting: the art of protecting flat surfaces from the weather and exposing them to the critic..
- Ambrose Bierce

I was born in Illinois in 1957 and grew up there and in Thailand, California and Singapore. In 1980 I got my BFA in Fine Art from Beloit College in Wisconsin. Shortly after Mount St Helens blew up in May of 1980, I moved to Portland, Oregon. It's beautiful here; there's good coffee, good beer, and good Thai food, so I never left.

I work in a variety of mediums, such as graphite pencil, color pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, pastel, oil, and acrylic; also in different styles, producing paintings, drawings, cartoons, illustrations, interior murals, and furniture. In 1997 I also began my custom picture framing business.

I welcome commissions. I have even created some pieces from poor photographs or a client's memory. The "Aspen" painting was such a commission. Please visit the Contact page to inquire about commissions and framing.
